Tercell Pryor

Meet Mr. Tercell Pryor

"Hello, My name is Tercell Pryor and this is my first mission trip to Haiti . Helping others has always been near and dear to my heart, I've done volunteer work before and in High School I went on a small mission trip to Wisconsin to help tornado victims. But never something of this magnitude. It's very important to me as a man of color to set an example for my community and peers to show them that helping hands is not only limited to certain races. That together we all can help each other and also ourselves. Growing up I've seen commercials thinking I'd like to go help yet the opportunity never presented itself. That has all changed so I'm overjoyed to accomplish a lifetime goal of mines. God has put me in the right position and I'm taking full advantage of it. I'm a fun loving person that will pretty much always have a smile on my face for no reason . I find joy in God, family, friends, people, and music. What I'm looking to accomplish from this experience is a life changing connection with God. I know there are great things he wants me to do with my life. I'm hoping one day he gives me the resources and puts me in the financial position to give back even more and live out my dreams."

I am looking forward to having Tercell on this team of young adults traveling to Haiti. Tercell has a very positive attitude and brings energy to our team meetings. I appreciate his openness and his willingness to see opportunities of service. I have no doubt that he will be bring many smiles to the staff and the people in Haiti!! I believe Tercell is capable of doing many great things for the people in Haiti, as well as his community and peers!!

Kayleen Smith

Meet Miss Kayleen Smith

My name is Kayleen Smith and this is my second time to Haiti. I traveled to Haiti last year at this time expecting that is would change my heart but having no idea that it would so drastically change my life! I was completely broken by the poverty and heartache I saw in Haiti and then again completely revitalized by the passion, faith, and courage of the Haitian people. When I left Haiti last year, I made a commitment to never forgetting what I saw and to changing my behaviors to reflect the values I had established in Haiti.
In October, I headed to Pattaya, Thailand. Pattaya is the prostitution capital of the world and home to drug use, abuse, poverty, and other heart breaking realities. I worked as a teacher for individuals with disabilities for 6 months as well as with the prostitutes, the children living in the slums, and orphans. Through this experience, God worked through me to make me aware of my passion for long term mission and to remind me of my skills and abilities. God worked in my heart and told me that there was a handful of gifts that I possessed that he wanted me using for his Glory. My time in Thailand was coming to an end and I was able to stay with the families of some of my students, many of whom live in similar conditions to people in Haiti. I was truly able to experience the daily reality of poverty by literally living it. And then it hit me.... I needed to go back to Haiti. So here I am today, going back to the place that stole my heart and changed my life.
I'm going back to Haiti as a year long missionary! I am starting my year with a short term mission because I have invited my best friend Emily and her husband, Jesrin to witness Haiti with me! I am so excited to see God touch their hearts and break them open for his glory! What I witnessed in Haiti last year is something I want to shout out for the whole world to hear..... And I'm starting with my best friend. God is good and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to serve the poorest country in the western hemisphere!

I am excited for Kayleen to live in Haiti for the next year and to start working with the children at Grace Village on life skills and independent living. I know Kayleen will have an exciting adventure and will learn an incredible amount over the next year! I am pleased that Kayleen is still able to join us for this short term mission week and to share the experience and Haiti with her friends!

Hannah Maxbauer

Meet Miss Hannah

My name is Hannah. I am very excited to be going on my first trip to Haiti! Previously I have done some service work in Tanzania and Ecuador. I had amazing experiences in both countries and am looking forward to another awesome time in Haiti. I am currently a nutrition dietetics student at the College of Saint Benedict. This summer I will be doing nutrition research at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. I am a huge Michigan sports fan! I also enjoy being outdoors, especially swimming, biking, running and hiking!

Hannah's love for the outdoors, for adventure, and for nutrition will make her a great fit with the rest of our team traveling to Haiti! Her experience in Tanzania and Ecuador will help her to acclimate to the experiences and opportunities Hannah will have in Haiti. Kristina is looking forward to discussing nutrition-related topics with Hannah since the two of them have similar nutritional interests and academic histories. While in Haiti, Hannah has received approval to conduct a research study related to the nutritional health of the children. The information Hannah will obtain from her studies will provide insight for the current nutritional work taking place in Haiti.

Jane Margolis

Meet Miss Jane Margolis

My name is Jane Margolis. I want to go to Haiti because I went last year and it was amazing. I'm looking forward to the home for sick and dying babies, it's the best part of the trip! I had done mission work in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina and in Chile, but my trip to Haiti last year was the most immersive and extreme service experience I've ever had. I'm a graduate student in sociology at Boston College. I've been to 12 foreign countries. My favorite color is blue. Kristina is my friend. I am late doing everything she needs me to do for Haiti but she loves me anyway <3

We are excited to have Jane coming on our trip again to Haiti! Last year, Jane brought a great dynamic to the team. Her academic knowledge in sociology fueled many discussions and challenging conversations for team members, which helped them to dive deeper in their mission experience. If you couldn't tell by her brief bio, Jane also brings a sense of humor and lightheartedness to the team! We are thankful for her!

Stephanie Masek

Meet miss Stephanie Masek

Hi Everyone,
My name is Stephanie and this will be my second trip to Haiti with Healing Haiti. I was so very blessed to be given the opportunity to experience Haiti for the first time with my mom (and my incredible team) in June of 2012. I was hesitant at first as I was unsure of what to expect, but the moment I arrived in the beautiful city of Port Au Prince, I fell in love and felt led to continue serving in Haiti. I have participated in many different service projects and mission trips, all wonderful opportunities, but none had as much of an impact on me as Haiti has. Next year, I will be attending Iowa State University and majoring in Nutritional Studies hoping that this will be of use to me in my future with Healing Haiti. This year has been tough, waiting and waiting for a chance to return to Haiti, although I know the wait will payoff as I have kept in contact with my brothers and sisters in Christ from Haiti. I will be overjoyed to finally get my chance to be Christ's hands and feet to the people of Haiti again. I look forward to the moment my alarm clock sounds at 3am on June 17th. I am also looking forward to meeting and getting to know the new staff as well as my team members. Currently, I am a full time student at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, MN. I work part-time as a Personal Care Attendant for two young women with Cerebral palsy. This has been an incredible blessing to me, teaching me patience and constantly putting a smile on my face even after a long day at school. I love to play the piano and guitar as well as soccer, hockey and basically any other sport. I also enjoy music and singing. I am SO very excited and blessed with the opportunity to return to Haiti and I cannot wait to see what my future holds. Please keep me and my team in your prayers as we live out God's call to serve those in need. Just over 70 days left!!!! :)

I think someone is anticipating a trip to Haiti!? Am I right or am I right!? :)  AWESOME!!! I am excited Stephanie is able to join our mission team this June! A few months again, Stephanie contacted me about the nutrition work I do in Haiti. I had an opportunity to speak to her class at Totino Grace, and to speak individually with Stephanie again. I am glad she is pursuing a degree in nutrition! She is a sweet, young lady that is passionate about service and passionate about Haiti. I look forward to getting to know Stephanie better and to watch her experience Haiti for the second time!

Angie Kub

Introducing: Miss Angie Kub!

The opportunity to go on the mission trip with Healing Haiti came at a great time.  Unsure about my direction in life, someone had recommended that I go on a mission trip. Within days, opportunities were arising and I couldn’t miss the signs.  I heard that Kristina was going to be leading another team down to Haiti and I immediately jumped on the opportunity! I have never been to Haiti and I have never been on a mission trip. I want to go to Haiti to step outside of my life, my comfort zone, and experience how the people in Haiti live.  Over the past couple years I have been on my own spiritual journey, rediscovering a Higher Power. I have realized that my purpose in life is to live through my Higher Power and be of service to others.  I am currently a yoga instructor.  I enjoy the energy and healing properties that teaching and practicing yoga brings to me and everyone I am connected to. I hope to bring my love of yoga to the people in Haiti.  In the fall I plan on going back to college to study my passion in Health and Wellness with a focus in Family Social Science.  I enjoy staying active and love being outdoors!

I am very excited for Angie to come on this trip to Haiti. Angie is one of my cousins, and one of the first on my dad's side of the family to come with me to Haiti! Over Christmas, Angie had asked about my young adult mission trip to Haiti. At the time, I was unsure if I would be leading a team again due to the amount of work I am currently engaged with in Haiti. When I decided to lead the trip, I made sure to get Angie on the list of team members. It will be exciting to share Haiti, my second home, with Angie and watch her share her passions of health and wellness with the communities we serve in Haiti.  I know her gentle spirit will be loved by the Haitian community and children!

Alex Detrick

Introducing to you: Alex Detrick

Hi everyone,

I'm Alex Detrick. I'm excited to be joining you all on my second mission trip to Haiti. The first was with my church in 1995. After the earthquake in 2010, I decided to raise money to help earthquake victims. During one of my events, participants were able to buy solar lanterns. Kristina was kind enough to bring them down for me last year which is how I was introduced to Healing Haiti. By day, I'm an engineer for Sprint. During my free time, I run a local non-profit called Sol Inspirations. I also enjoy camping, traveling and running marathons.

If you are interested learning more about Alex's non-profit, check out the website: http://www.sol-inspirations.org/. Sol Inspiration has its origins from a fundraiser fashion show for Haiti. However, the overall mission was created on the bases of Alex's personal experiences of witnessing, firsthand, sweatshops as a child to being interested in renewable and solar energy. The mission of the organization is to educate consumers and advocate for responsible fashion for the world.

Alex's concern for social justice and his passion for sustainability will provide insightful contributions to our young adult mission team this June!

Aly Potts

June 17-24, 2013, Sara Ross and I have the honor of leading 11 young adults to Haiti through the organization called Healing Haiti. The week will be awesome--packed with service in all different ways from bringing clean water to the poorest slum in Haiti to caring for sick and dying babies and adults to sharing our gifts and talents with children at different orphanages around Haiti. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be introducing to you each of the members of our team with hopes that you, our followers, will encourage the team member and pray for them as they prepare for the journey ahead. So let's get started....

Introducing to you: Miss Aly!!!!

My name is Aly. This is my first Haiti trip! I am SO excited and SO blessed to be going! My heart has been overflowing ever since the prospect of the Haiti journey began last year. Fortunately, I am able to go this year. I have been involved with ministry for as long as I can remember, all the way from being a young child up to leadership and participating as a worship leader in college ministry in Colorado. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Human Services, Community Health, and Nutrition from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010. I have worked at Minnesota Teen Challenge and currently am finishing my RN nursing degree at Gustavus Adolphus College. I hope to move back to Colorado and pursue graduate education following this trip to Haiti. I have traveled to many countries (my father was a pilot). I enjoy biking, camping, and canoeing. The academic side of me loves writing and research. I'm an avid reader and photographer. I am excited to connect with my team and for us to grow closer on this trip! Hooray for serving Jesus!

This girl has some energy--you can just feel it! I look forward to getting to know Aly better on our trip too! She will bring great insight to our team with her education in nursing and her experiences in ministry!
